Lavender Walk is a dedicated unit for young people with mental health difficulties aged 13 to 18. We provide inpatient care for up to twelve young people and there is a day programme for an additional four young people.
Based in the centre of the ward we have two well-equipped classrooms, a smaller and perfectly formed study for independent work, a multi-media room and a very creative art room. There is also access to an outdoor courtyard garden.
We have a small staff of very enthusiastic and experienced teachers including visiting music and art specialist teachers. We work at Key Stages 3 - 5 and can support learning across a broad range of subjects.
Admissions are usually 6-8 weeks, though this can sometimes be shorter or longer. We liaise with existing education settings or potential new ones. Our priority is to ensure that we tailor learning to the individual holistic needs of the young person and to consider their future educational and psychosocial needs. If students have exams scheduled during their admission we can ensure that this happens, where appropriate. We also work closely with parents, carers, local education authorities and other local services and charities to support the educational development of our students both during their admission, and as they return to school, college or other placements.
