  • Our colleague from Vienna's experience of job-shadowing

    elke2

From 15th to 16th June 2017 I had the chance to do a short job-shadowing at Chelsea Community Hospital School.

As a hospital school teacher in Vienna and programme manager of the 10th HOPE (Hospital School Organization of Pedagogues in Europe) Congress in Vienna in May 2016, I’ve dreamed of visiting my British colleagues and participating in their lessons and meetings. Thanks to the open-mindedness of both the teachers and the students I had the chance to enjoy the welcoming atmosphere at two of their hospital school sites.

Thank you for the invaluable music session you organised for the children on Great Western Ward at St Mary's Paddington which my daughter was able to attend. Although my daughter was on the ward for a while her session with Mark and Vanessa from LSO was absolutely wonderful and a real life line for her whilst being so poorly. She has talked of it often and it has provided real inspiration in as much as she is now improvising on our piano at home and I will arrange lessons for her soon. Thank you very much indeed and I sincerely hope you can secure additional funding for further arts and music activities for the children which I feel are so essential for their recovery and well being. I have just read and looked at the article that this image comes from. It is a perfect illustration of the magic that Brian creates with all the children, young people, their families and the staff with whom he encounters.I first saw Brian do this nearly 24 years ago and his magic has never waned in that time. He is wonderful.

As our garden soil should now be nice and warm we have planted lots of vegetables at CW - some from seeds and some from seedlings. We have planted spring onions, onions, carrots, tomatoes and celery. We cannot wait to harvest them later in the year.

Thank you for your hard work on the garden,
looking forward to eating the results, perhaps we could eat the salad and vegetables at our shared lunch on a Wednesday.
