A huge thank you to all our volunteers who have been tirelessly running the Xmas stall at Brompton Hospital each week raising over £1000 for our school. See The Annual Drawing of the Raffle!

Our new minibus has arrived!

We are delighted to announce the arrival of our brand new, fully wheelchair accessible, minibus. As it’s a bit smaller it can be driven by all our MIDAS trained staff - which means many more exciting trips for all students! A million thanks to everyone who helped us fundraise.

Jack and Kaylem feed the fish

fish3sml
Thanks to Jack and Kaylem for paying a visit to the secondary classroom this half term to feed the fish for everyone! They loved watching and pointing at the fish as they glided through the water and munched on their favourite fish food!

Message from Gemma

Gemma was a student who came to the Hospital School 17 years ago when she was going through a very tough time. Last week she got in touch with us to tell us about the positive changes in her life and what her time at the Hospital School meant to her. Have a read...

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

Students from the community and Chelsea & Westminster were lucky enough to attend the dress rehearsal of Holland Park Opera’s ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’. The characters were outlandish, the singing fantastic, and the sun even made an appearance!

Musical Time Machines

Musical Time Machines is an exciting new musical project taking place in our schools at St Mary's and the Brompton. Throughout June, students will be working with musicians from Wigmore Hall Learning and sound artist Gawain Hewitt, to make music for their 'time machines'. You can follow their progress on the prioject blog here: https://musicaltimemachines.wordpress.com/

The lights-off event

mdx 20150327 Screen Shot 2015-03-27 at 06.29.15-3
On Friday the 27th of March we are pledging as a school to not use any electrical goods all morning. We will also only reuse scrap material. We are going to find out what lessons are like without any electricity in the classroom. We are also doing a fundraiser in the afternoon from 2.30pm in aid of WWF. We will be selling books, cakes and some fantastic T-shirts, pencil cases and bags that have been designed by the children. At the same time we hope to raise awareness for Earth Hour which is at 8.30pm on Saturday the 28th of March, all around the world. Join us! Please find more information and a powerful video here: http://www.earthhour.org/

The Hoosiers perform for our students!

hoosier sml

Our classroom became the newest music venue in town as the lead singer of The Hoosiers came to perform for students. One of our students Blake even debuted his own song-writing and singing, dueting with Irwin on Blake's brilliant song, 'Will You Marry Me?' A big thank you to Jamie from Roland and Kensington & Chelsea Foundation for organising the gig - what a great way to play into the weekend! See Blake's lyrics below.

Amazing Amy's Mudder Triumph!

A huge thank you to Amy our amazingly brave Learning Mentor who raised nearly £1000 for the Hospital School by taking part in the incredibly tough Tough Mudder, a gruelling 12 mile obstacle course. See below for all the details...

Goodbye Hadisa!

Today we said goodbye to Hadisa, a very special student from Afghanistan who has inspired us all with her reislience and commitment to learning. Good luck Hadisa - we will miss you!

Budoor's poppy fundraiser

Budoor Poppies sml

As 2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War we have been learning about the history of commemoration and in particular the tradition of wearing poppies. One of our students, Budoor, age 12 was inspired to make crocheted and loom band poppies over the half term. They really look fabulous and very professional. She is selling them to raise money for The Royal British Legion. The crocheted poppies cost £3 and the loom band poppies cost £2. If you would like to buy any please contact the school office. Thank you very much!

Thanks for helping with our minibus!

Janette attended a civic dinner with the Mayor and Mayoress of the Royal Borough Kensington and Chelsea, Rotarian President George Petrounakos and the Swiss Ambassadors wife. A donation was made from the concert at the Swiss Embassy which will go towards our new minibus – many thanks to all involved!

25th Celebrations

students-thumbAmazingly, it’s been a whole twenty-five years since Janette Steel founded the Chelsea Community Hospital School. We celebrated our special birthday with a fabulous party where staff – including our two longest serving members Mary and Brian – were joined by past students, friends, volunteers and Comenius visitors from Iceland and Ireland. A huge thank-you to Harrods for the delicious catering, all our sponsors, FCCHS and our volunteers, especially Eddie the driver. A particular thank you to Cindy who couldn't be with us but set the project in motion, and to everyone who worked so hard to make it all possible. Here's to the next twenty-five years!

Hadisa at 'Guardians of the Galaxy’ Premier

Hadisa1smlOne of our students, Hadisa, went on a very exciting evening out to the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Premiere at half term. She has spent the summer since making a beautiful book out of marbled paper, writing about her experience and the film; ‘This was the first time I went to the cinema, it was the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Premiere in 3D. Premiere means ‘first’ in French, so this means it was the first showing of the film. Nobody had seen it before so it was very special!’

Congratulations to our students!

congrats2Congratulations to our students who have gained Arts Award qualifications: Jane,  Kareem, Saed, Yasmine, Oscar, Samson, Denys, Joel, Danny,  Hannah,  Maria, Caitlin,  Isabel,  Amy, Jackie,  Kate, Jennifer, Ekaterina, Hadisa and Chloe.

A Festival of Words

mdx 20140409 DSCF3403 smlWe celebrated Easter and the arival of Spring with our "Festival of Words". This was the culmination of a 5 week music project in which students worked with Wigmore Hall's learning ensemble Ignite and the Fire Poet Philip Wells.
