rainbow small
Hope is the last item that flies out of Pandora’s Box.
A rainbow is the symbol of hope and you cannot see a double rainbow without looking up and smiling.
This was the anniversary of the past - now we have hope for the future...

We say farewell to Marie

small2
There were a lot of empty plates! We can’t believe we didn’t get a picture of the spread, including the famous “Mikey’s Cakes” Guinness cake. But there was a good turnout including nurses, doctors, wider MDT members, governors, and Marie’s current and former colleagues in CCHS. They all went back full of sweetness and memories of Marie, brought back by the lovely slide show.

Martin receives Long Service Award

martin20small
Martin was presented with a 20 year Long Service Award by the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Councillor Mrs Elizabeth Rutherford. “I’m delighted to join the esteemed CCHS 20year+ club! It just goes to show what an amazing place the Hospital School is to work” - Martin

Rachael's Summer Reads

We asked our secondary English teacher Rachael for her top suggestions for new books for the summer.

“We’re at that exciting time of year when summer is stretching ahead of you, six golden weeks……. But what will you do with yourself the whole time?! This is the perfect time to pick up a new summer read, and here’s a list of writers currently causing excitement amongst young adult readers. Some by prize winning authors, some by old favourites – even one by famous beauty vlogger Zoe Sugg! Yes, reading is great for your brain, but it’s also just a great way to escape the four walls of your room for a bit. Try something new, and if you come across any amazing reads this summer, we’d love to hear about them when you come back to school.”

A huge thank-you to our charity volunteers

bmheader

Students have started an exciting 4 week project inspired by the paintings and poems of William Blake. Working with musicians from Wigmore Hall Learning's resident ensemble Ignite, our artist in residence Shaun and actor Charlie Folorunsho. They will be creating music, poetry and artworks. Keep an eye on their work on the special Blake's Mosaics blog.

Charity Cake Sale 28th June

Our wonderful charity volunteers will be holding a Charity Cake Sale on Tuesday 28th June at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. Be sure to drop by for some delicious baking! Or even bake a cake for them to sell :)

Writers' Ink

writersinksmall
Writers’ Ink is a new blog created by Chelsea Community Hospital School to celebrate children’s writing across our school.
Exciting writing is so much more than being able to identify a subordinate clause. Exciting writing is, in the words of poet and author Michael Rosen, ‘pleasure, stimulation, feeling, curiosity, wonder and fun and children finding their own voice.’ It is a love for language and the wonderful ways it can be used and manipulated to engage, entertain, inform and create. Take a read of the children's wonderful writing!

Easter Celebrations

easter1thumb
We were thrilled to celebrate Easter as a school today as we held our Easter service with students and visitors present in the chapel at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

Thank you volunteers!

A huge thank you to all our volunteers who have been tirelessly running the Xmas stall at Brompton Hospital each week raising over £1000 for our school. See The Annual Drawing of the Raffle!

Our new minibus has arrived!

minibusmall
We are delighted to announce the arrival of our brand new, fully wheelchair accessible, minibus. As it’s a bit smaller it can be driven by all our MIDAS trained staff - which means many more exciting trips for all students! A million thanks to everyone who helped us fundraise.

Jack and Kaylem feed the fish

fish3sml
Thanks to Jack and Kaylem for paying a visit to the secondary classroom this half term to feed the fish for everyone! They loved watching and pointing at the fish as they glided through the water and munched on their favourite fish food!

Message from Gemma

Gemma was a student who came to the Hospital School 17 years ago when she was going through a very tough time. Last week she got in touch with us to tell us about the positive changes in her life and what her time at the Hospital School meant to her. Have a read...

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

20150714 113655sml
Students from the community and Chelsea & Westminster were lucky enough to attend the dress rehearsal of Holland Park Opera’s ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’. The characters were outlandish, the singing fantastic, and the sun even made an appearance!

Musical Time Machines

Musical Time Machines is an exciting new musical project taking place in our schools at St Mary's and the Brompton. Throughout June, students will be working with musicians from Wigmore Hall Learning and sound artist Gawain Hewitt, to make music for their 'time machines'. You can follow their progress on the prioject blog here: https://musicaltimemachines.wordpress.com/

The lights-off event

mdx 20150327 Screen Shot 2015-03-27 at 06.29.15-3
On Friday the 27th of March we are pledging as a school to not use any electrical goods all morning. We will also only reuse scrap material. We are going to find out what lessons are like without any electricity in the classroom. We are also doing a fundraiser in the afternoon from 2.30pm in aid of WWF. We will be selling books, cakes and some fantastic T-shirts, pencil cases and bags that have been designed by the children. At the same time we hope to raise awareness for Earth Hour which is at 8.30pm on Saturday the 28th of March, all around the world. Join us! Please find more information and a powerful video here: http://www.earthhour.org/
